Rural America Through Rural America’s Eyes
The Hand That Feeds U.S., a coalition of agriculture groups, set out with an ambitious goal almost one year ago: To build better relationships with urban reporters.
Now it has enlisted farmers from coast to coast to help in its efforts, and it seems to be paying off.
The coalition sent out a call to rural America to submit photographs that best depicted American agriculture—in essence, how small-town America views itself. Within weeks, more than 100 photos were submitted, and those have been whittled down to the top 25 for an online contest.
The photos tell a story of the importance of family (link to photo 10), technology (link to photo 9), tradition (link to photo 3), and nostalgia (link to photo 5) to the heartland, and it’s a story the public seems eager to hear. Since the photo contest went live, online traffic to The Hand That Feeds U.S. has jumped nearly eight-fold.
